Acer's new Vero 16 Copilot+ laptop, due late 2026, uses a tool-free latch for accessing its replaceable battery and SSD

Acer has announced the Vero 16, a 16-inch Copilot+ laptop designed with user-repairable components. The machine will be available around December 2026 or early 2027, though pricing remains unannounced.

According to Acer's announcement, the laptop's defining feature is its repair-friendly construction. A tool-free latch on the bottom cover allows access to internal parts without screws. The battery and M.2 SSD are specifically identified as replaceable components. The external hinge structure is detachable, and the side input/output port covers can be removed separately.

Specifications and Performance

The Vero 16 will be offered with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, with the top configuration reaching the Core Ultra X9 388H. This configuration includes integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics. Acer claims up to 180 TOPS of combined platform AI performance for this model, a figure the company notes combines different processing blocks and is not solely the NPU's throughput. Memory capacity reaches 32 GB of LPDDR5X. The currently announced maximum storage is 512 GB, though Acer suggests buyers requiring more should confirm compatible replacement drive capacities and any warranty implications.

Display and Connectivity Options

Display choices for the laptop include a 16-inch 3K OLED panel with a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Acer also lists 2K OLED touchscreen and non-touch alternatives, with availability depending on configuration and region. The published maximum contrast ratio is 100,000:1, with a response time as low as 1 ms on applicable displays.

Connectivity is comprehensive. The laptop features two Thunderbolt 4 ports and an HDMI 2.1 port supporting output resolutions up to 8K. It also includes Wi-Fi 7 and an SD-card reader. A 5-megapixel infrared camera comes with a physical privacy shutter. Power comes from a 71 Wh battery.

Upgrade Claims and Environmental Design

Acer makes an unusual claim regarding future upgrades, stating the platform is designed to support processor upgrades across at least two generations. The company has not detailed the required parts, pricing, or service procedure. Mobile processors are typically soldered, so this upgrade path may involve replacing a larger system board rather than a simple CPU swap.

The laptop's design incorporates recycled materials. The top cover and palm rest use 50 percent post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50 percent low-carbon aluminum. The bottom cover contains 60 percent post-consumer recycled plastic, and the display bezel uses 30 percent. Acer also specifies a solvent-free powder coating, recyclable packaging, and that the device has undergone MIL-STD-810H durability testing.

While not a fully modular desktop, the Vero 16's focus on replaceable high-wear parts and serviceable chassis sections aims to lower repair costs and reduce electronic waste. The company's regional material indicates a late 2026 or early 2027 launch window.
