Modders have enabled AMD's latest FSR 4.1.1b upscaling technology for older Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards ahead of an official launch. The OptiScaler developer team prepared a custom DLL file that makes the feature work on RDNA 2-based hardware.

Previously, users could enable the newer FSR 4.1 technology on these GPUs through the OptiScaler utility, but the process was described as lengthy and a hassle. The new FSR 4.1.1b release simplifies this significantly. The team has prepared a modified DLL file that bypasses the need for the OptiScaler tool entirely.

Simplified Installation Process

Enabling the feature now requires only a simple file swap. Users must download the custom DLL file and replace the original FSR upscaler DLL file located in the Binaries/Win64 folder of their game. For safety, the original file can be renamed by adding ".old" to its filename instead of being deleted. The report states this modified FSR 4.1.1b DLL bypasses an INT8 check, making it a plug-and-play feature.

When the game is started, FSR 4.1.1b will be active without going through the multiple steps previously required by OptiScaler. The Wccftech report cautions that enabling this modified upscaler in online games is not recommended, as titles with anti-cheat systems may interpret the file modification as a violation and result in account bans.

Visual and Performance Improvements

The primary improvements in FSR 4.1.1b over the previous FSR 4.0.2c version are reduced visual artifacts. The source specifically notes a reduction in shimmering and ghosting effects. A demonstration by the channel Ancient Gameplays compared the two versions side-by-side in several games, showing the benefits.

Many users have reported similar visual stability gains, which the report calls huge for owners of RX 6000 series graphics cards. For raw performance, the demonstration showed a modest improvement.

This performance gain is described as not huge, but it comes alongside more stable visuals. The report concludes that this method allows users to get more stable visuals than ever on hardware that AMD does not officially support for this upscaler version. AMD is expected to release its official INT8 FSR 4.1 for the Radeon RX 6000 GPU family in early 2027.
