Nothing has launched the Headphone (1) Pro as its new flagship audio product. This upgrade over last year's successful launch is positioned to compete directly with the Sony WH-1000XM6, Bose QuietComfort Ultra, and Apple AirPods Max in the premium headphone market. The new model will sell for $399.
Audio technology and sound quality
The Headphone (1) Pro features a triple-driver audio system and supports Hi-Res wireless audio. The three-driver system consists of a bass dynamic driver, a precision dynamic driver, and a treble xMEMS driver. Nothing states the bass driver is designed to add more punch and sensitivity to low frequencies. The precision driver aims to add more texture to vocals and instruments, while the xMEMS driver delivers crisper highs.
It offers five modes of Dynamic Spatial Audio with head tracking. The headphones also include five new custom EQ profiles and a separate physical Flat EQ switch for a neutral sound profile. The Nothing X app provides access to an advanced equalizer, and a physical switch on the headphones can turn all equalizer adjustments off. Nothing worked with London's Metropolis Studios to tune the Headphone (1) Pro, a collaboration focused on professional audio tools and soundstage characteristics.
Noise cancellation and microphone system
The Headphone (1) Pro features an improved adaptive active noise cancellation system. It uses a 10-microphone array to provide claimed noise reduction of up to 46 dB, an improvement over the previous generation's 42dB. Nothing claims the noise reduction improvement is particularly noticeable in strong winds or noisy traffic.
Design, materials, and comfort
Built from aluminum and titanium, the Headphone (1) Pro uses shatter- and scratch-resistant 9H Panda Glass on both ear cups. The glass reveals parts of the triple-driver architecture and contributes to a cleaner aesthetic where plastic has been replaced. Nothing reduced the headphones' weight to 327 grams through redesigned internal architecture, which included replacing steel arms with titanium.
Comfort improvements include a wider headband with thicker padding and softer ear cushions for longer listening sessions. The redesigned ear cushions feature an 8mm silicone baffle wall inside, which creates a stronger sound barrier and improves the seal around the ears.
Connectivity, controls, and availability
The headphones support wired playback over USB-C at up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Nothing said, "The Headphone (1) Pro combines an elevated listening experience for consumers with studio-grade production and mixing features for professionals." It will be available beginning September 29 through Nothing's official store at nothing.tech, on Amazon, and in Best Buy stores across the US and Canada.
