Meta launches AI game creation tools for Facebook
Meta has launched Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, AI-powered tools that let users generate 2D or 3D mobile games from text prompts, with games playable

Meta has introduced two AI-powered tools-Horizon Create as a mobile app and Horizon Studio as a browser-based platform-that enable users to generate 2D or 3D mobile games from text prompts without coding or specialized hardware. No coding knowledge, specialized hardware, or months-long development cycles are required. Both products will initially be available through early access, and Meta is now accepting waitlist sign-ups.
Horizon Create is a standalone mobile app for generating games from text prompts on phones. Horizon Studio is a browser-based environment with visual editing controls layered on natural language prompting. It does not require software installation or a gaming-grade PC. Both tools are built on Meta's Horizon Engine and share a backend. This allows projects to move between mobile and browser without losing assets, systems, or iteration history.
Games built with the tools integrate directly into Meta's social apps
Games published through Horizon Create or Horizon Studio automatically qualify for distribution on Facebook, Instagram, and Horizon. They appear directly in those feeds. Meta will promote these games across Facebook and Instagram, and they can be recommended to users. Games can be played directly within Facebook and Instagram without leaving the apps. Someone viewing a game clip on Instagram could join a multiplayer game in seconds without downloading another app. Meta positions these games as native content within its feeds. The company stated, "Your game lives natively in the feeds where people already discover content and connect with friends."
Tools streamline game development with AI and cross-platform flexibility
The AI-assisted tools automate key game components. Games generated include progression systems, balanced difficulty, art direction, and multiplayer functionality. Creators can revise games after the AI generates an initial version. Horizon Create supports multiple concurrent projects and offers blank canvases and pre-built templates. Horizon Studio allows users to adjust scene layouts, swap asset libraries, and modify script parameters directly. Meta said, Both enable creators to turn any idea into a complete 2D or 3D mobile game, complete with progression systems, balanced difficulty, art direction, multiplayer, and more, then refine every element to their standards.
Meta positions the tools as a scalable alternative to VR-dependent Horizon
This move reflects Meta's effort to make Horizon less dependent on virtual reality. Horizon began as a VR app but has recently shifted focus to mobile access. Putting Horizon-made games inside Facebook and Instagram could expose them to a much larger audience. Meta's Horizon platform reported just 300,000 monthly users in early 2022 before pivoting toward mobile-first experiences. Meta is presenting the tools as a way to create full games rather than simple interactive experiments. Google's Project Genie can create short interactive experiences, but Meta says its tools are built to produce games with systems that support longer play sessions.
Safety, monetization, and market impact frame the rollout
All generated content must pass through Meta's content safety systems before reaching players. Safety guardrails are embedded directly into the creation workflow. Games undergo review before publication and are automatically assigned age ratings. Horizon Studio is currently being tested within the creator community for minor protections, with broader access planned. Meta's traffic allocation logic prioritizes 'fun' as the core metric, with engagement, stability, cultural relevance, and user retention also factoring into exposure. Strong-performing games gain additional reach; underperforming titles are deprioritized.
Creators can eventually earn revenue through in-game monetization and the Meta Horizon creator fund, though specific details are not yet disclosed. Meta has not revealed how much control creators will have over generated game logic, artwork, or other technical components. The announcement triggered notable stock movements.
