The development of the MICH 2000 is a significant achievement for Ukraine, which has been seeking to improve its drone capabilities in recent years. The drone has been used in combat sorties, with Alpha, the special operations center of the SBU, launching thousands of MICH 2000s at hundreds of targets. ## Challenges and Improvements Despite the success of the MICH 2000, the development process was not without its challenges. The first prototype crashed 1 km into its maiden flight, and Russian electronic warfare downed the third test aircraft. However, the team persevered and made significant improvements to the drone. The manufacturer of the MICH 2000 has stated that almost nothing of the ZTK-150 remains in the current MICH 2000 beyond its outline. The team has localized engines, warheads, fuselages, and rocket boosters across dozens of Ukrainian suppliers, putting domestic content at 85% of the drone's value. However, fitting a jam-resistant CRPA navigation antenna cuts this to 55%, as the antennas cost $20,000 to $25,000 depending on module count and are only made by a handful of companies worldwide. ## Production and Future Plans The company behind the MICH 2000 builds around 6,000 drones a year across eight versions, with buyers choosing analog, digital, or Starlink communications. The company reinvests roughly $1 million a month in R&D while scaling toward 10,000 units annually. A successor to the MICH 2000, called the MICH+, has been developed, which drops the type's forward canards and pairs a 70 kg warhead with a 600 km range at a target price near $40,000.
