HP has launched the 16-inch OmniBook Ultra AI PC as part of its consumer lineup, targeting developers, creators, and gamers with an Arm-based NVIDIA RTX Spark platform. The laptop joins HP's consumer lineup alongside the 14-inch OmniBook Ultra and OmniBook Ultra Flip 14. It is designed for workflows combining on-device AI and cloud AI, integrating personal AI agents and advanced creative experiences. Pre-orders begin on October 29, with a starting price of approximately $3,949.

Hardware specifications and performance

The OmniBook Ultra 16 is built around NVIDIA’s RTX Spark N1X platform. It combines a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU with a Blackwell-derived RTX GPU featuring 6,144 CUDA cores. A unified-memory design allows the CPU and GPU to access the same memory pool, unlike conventional notebooks where system RAM and graphics VRAM are separate. This notebook is designed for CUDA development and NVIDIA Studio applications.

The HP OmniBook Ultra 16 AI PC offers up to 128GB of unified memory. It delivers up to 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance, a low-precision format intended primarily for inference.

Design, display, and thermal management

The laptop features a 16-inch 3K OLED display that is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certified. The panel has a resolution of 2,880 by 1,800 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It reaches a peak brightness of 500 nits for SDR content and 1,100 nits for HDR. All SKUs feature this 16-inch OLED panel.

The 16-inch chassis must dissipate significant heat under load. HP uses a tower hinge and trunk architecture for enhanced airflow. The design includes large heat pipes and two ultra-thin fans for heat dissipation. Sustained AI inference, rendering, and compilation may reduce clocks if cooling is insufficient.

Memory, storage, and usability constraints

The unified memory is not user-upgradable like conventional SO-DIMMs. Configurations and upgrade pricing are detailed in the table below.

ConfigurationBase PriceMemory Upgrade CostStorage Upgrade CostTotal (Example)
Extreme Plus (64GB/1TB)$4,199--$4,199
Upgrade to 128GB RAM-+$1,110--
Upgrade to 2TB SSD--+$850-
Fully configured (128GB/2TB)---$6,159

All SKUs feature a built-in 99Wh battery. HP claims the laptop supports up to 17 hours of battery life and can charge up to 50% in approximately 30 minutes with fast charging.

Market context and availability

HP is the fourth Windows OEM to ship a 16-inch laptop with RTX Spark N1X, following Asus, Dell, and MSI. HP Japan announced the product on October 15. Pre-orders in the United States are scheduled to ship starting November 6. A UK retailer lists a November 17 ship date for British customers. Independent testing should measure long-duration performance, fan noise, surface temperatures, and battery behavior to validate sustained AI inference, rendering, and compilation capabilities.
