Control Resonant has set a new benchmark for Remedy Entertainment on Steam, peaking at approximately 42,799 concurrent players shortly after its September 24 launch. The game also reached first place on Steam's bestseller chart, significantly outpacing the studio's previous PC releases.

Control Resonant's peak player count is nearly quadruple that of the original Control, which maxed out at around 9,100 players six years ago. The Ultimate Edition of the first game peaked at 9,193. This sequel has also far surpassed the Steam performance of Quantum Break, which maxed out at 2,719 concurrent players. Days after launch, Control Resonant remains a commercial success, currently sitting at number 10 on Steam's sales chart, just behind Dressmaker. Player reception is strong, with an 88% positive review score granting it a 'Very Positive' rating across almost 4,000 reviews.

Strong community response amid piracy

Despite being cracked by pirates quickly after launch, fans have expressed notable support for Remedy. Piracy forums and subreddits saw an unusual number of posts encouraging users to purchase the game if they could afford it. This sentiment was echoed publicly on social media. KAMI (@Okami13_) posted on September 24, stating, "Control Resonant is Remedy's most successful Steam launch ever." On Reddit, user rockey94 made a direct appeal to the community. They wrote, "For the love of god please buy this game and help keep the lights on for this one of a kind studio." Another commenter summarized the feeling, saying, I would pay for the game to support Remedy.

Wishlist momentum and market positioning

The game entered the market with substantial pre-launch interest. By September 22, over two million Steam users had added Control Resonant to their wishlists, placing it eighth on the platform's most-wished-for list. This momentum built steadily from its announcement at The Game Awards 2025. Within six days, nearly 500,000 wishlists were recorded on Steam alone. Pre-orders began on June 2, and by August 11, the game had 1.5 million wishlists across all platforms. By release day, more than 1.2 million people had wishlisted the Steam version, representing about 60% of the total. This built a solid foundation for its strong chart performance against major competitors like EA Sports FC 27.

Broader success across platforms and future outlook

Success extends beyond Steam. Control Resonant ranks among the PlayStation 5's top 10 sellers in 20 different territories, with its PS5 store rating standing at 9.6/10 based on almost 2,000 reviews. Critics have praised its writing, visual design, music, and action sequences. This performance is a bright spot for Remedy, which saw its previous title, Alan Wake 2, become its fastest-selling game after a late 2023 Epic Games Store launch. Alan Wake 2 sold three million units earlier in 2026 but took over a year to recoup its development costs. The studio's momentum continues with future projects, including a remake of the first two Max Payne games, which Rockstar Games is funding and will market. That combined remake has been in development for some time, though its launch is likely years away. Remedy also announced plans in 2024 to adapt both Control and Alan Wake for TV and film, though details remain scarce. Control Resonant launched during a crowded season featuring titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Wolverine, with major releases like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 still to come before Grand Theft Auto VI. Control Resonant remains in the top 10 on Steam's sales chart days after launch.
